Atiéna R. Kilfa was born 1990 in Paris, France, and currently lives and works in Berlin. In 2022 she graduated from the Städelschule in Frankfurt, where she studied Fine Art. Her work has been presented in group exhibitions at Espace Arlaud, Lausanne, CH (2019), Elvira, Frankfurt, DE (2021), and Expo Chicago, Chicago, US (2022). She has had solo exhibitions at Cell Project Space, London, UK (2020), Liste Art Fair, Basel, CH (2021), and KW Institute of Contemporary Art, Berlin, DE (2022). The latter show is currently on view at Camden Arts Centre, London, UK, through May 28.

Atiéna R. Kilfa’s work engages with a space of estrangement from western pictorial traditions such as family portraits, still lives, or commercial displays which she restages, films and photographs. Through photography, video, sculpture and installation, her work operates shifts in scale, focus and perspective, breaking away from pre-established and familiar narrative axes and highlighting a relation between tradition and orientation, subject and image, reflecting on how each is created by the other.
