Jan Paul Evers

Winner 2016

Jan Paul Evers was born in 1982 in Cologne and studied at Braunschweig Univer-sity of Art. He lives and works in Cologne. His analogue black and white photo-graphs rely on his own photographic material and other existing photographs as their source. The original motives may be both abstract and concrete. The actual artistic treatment of these images takes place in the dark room. With the help of stencils, through the adjustment of exposure time or through specific applications of chemical substances, he constructs new images – unique items on baryta pa-per. The compositions bring the relationship of image and reproduction, motive and reality to the forefront, thereby questioning the possibilities of reproduction. In the Focus section of Frieze London 2016, a solo-presentation of Ever’s work will be shown (Galerie Max Mayer). In addition, the artist is showing works in the con-text of a group exhibition at Kunstmuseum Bochum.
