Natascha Sadr Haghighian
Winner 2000
Natascha Sadr Haghighian’s artistic methods are difficult to delimit in terms of form and style: her „repertoire“ includes videos and performances as well as (sound) installations, CD-ROMS, comics, computer animations and documentary films. Her repeatedly applied principle is the inclusion and emphasising of various observers‘ points of views. She strips away pictorial contexts, focuses on individual elements, exposes visual perspectives and, in the process, attempts to demonstrate the conditions within which the pictorial material comes about. She frequently recombines the material gained in this way and eclipses them.
This process does not merely apply to the visual level: within the framework of the La Ville, la Mémoire, le Jardin exhibition she created a sound installation in the garden of the Villa Medici. Using the backdrop of sounds heard in the park by night, she broadcast selected fragments by day via loudspeakers hanging almost unnoticeably in the trees. This subtle intervention leads to a clearly noticeable displacement of reality.
